The Sacramental life at our Parish

Marriage

If you are intending to be married at Our Lady of the Lake Church, you must contact the pastor at least 6 months prior (or more) to the wedding by calling the parish office to set up enough time to prepare.   Please do NOT set a date with a hall or caterer before meeting with our priest or deacon, as you never know if the date is already taken.

Baptism & Christian Initiation

Infant Baptism

Parents expecting their first child are required to take a Baptism Preparation Class prior to having their child baptized. Call our Religious Education Office for details. 814-734-3113 x208

Baptisms are scheduled through the Parish Office.

  • Saturdays during 4:30pm Mass
  • Sundays during 10:30am Mass
  • Sundays at noon
  • or by special appointment

Usually baptisms do not take place during the Lenten Season.

SPECIAL NOTE:   Before you ask someone to be a godparent or sponsor for your infant or child, please remember that the qualifications are very important, and as easy as 1, 2, 3, 4

  1. The godparent must be Catholic.
  2. The godparent must be at least 16 years old and already Confirmed.
  3. The godparent must be living the Catholic faith (regular attendee at weekend / holy day Mass; and if married, in a valid marriage recognized by the Catholic Church.
  4. Sometimes parents may wish for one person who is not (nor ever was) a Catholic to be a witness to the baptism.  Called a "Christian Witness," this person assists the sole godparent in modeling a love of Jesus Christ for the child.

It is always best to discuss your choice of godparents / sponsors with the pastor BEFORE asking them, so as to make sure they would be a good candidate to be a godparent / sponsor for the baptism.   The priest or deacon is more than happy to help you.

Further:  The sponsors are 1 male and 1 female; If the Catholic godparent is not from our parish, they will need to request a "Sponsor's Certificate" from the pastor of the parish they are registered at to be mailed to our parish office and received before the baptism.

Child/Youth Baptism

Parents who wish to have their school-aged child baptized should first call the Religious Education Office to enroll their child in Religious Education classes.  Along with attending the regular grade-level classes with their peers, special instruction in the Order of Christian Initiation adopted for Children (OCIC) will be provided. Child/Youth baptisms normally take place during the Easter Vigil celebration.

Adult Baptism

Adults and youth aged 16 and older who are seeking baptism will be enrolled in Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) classes after an interview with our parish priest. Adult Baptisms normally take place during the Easter Vigil celebration. Call the Religious Education Office for details 814-734-3113 x 208
